CHAINMAN

DRC Engineering, Inc. is an employee-owned civil engineering and land surveying company with immediate openings for full-time chainmen to join our growing survey team! Our scope of work is broad and includes ALTA surveys, boundary surveys, construction staking, design topographic surveys, and much more. The chairman reports to the party chief and performs various field surveying tasks, traveling throughout the Southern California area. The ideal candidate is a team player who can also work independently, is a self-starter, an early riser, and is open to opportunities for overtime. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Holds level rod or distance reflector at designated points to assist in determining elevation and location for map making, construction, land and other surveys.

  • Calls out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook.

  • Marks points of measurement with elevation, station or other identifying marks.

  • Measures distance between survey points, using surveyors’ tapes or electronic distance measuring equipment.

  • Marks measuring points with keel, paint, scribes, tacks, stakes, or monuments.

  • Places stakes at designated points and drives them into the ground, sometimes at specific elevation, using sledgehammers.

  • Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey using brush hook, knife, axe, or other cutting tools.

  • Obtains data pertaining to angles, elevations, control points and contours used for map-making, construction or other purposes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a valid CA Driver’s License; ability to operate the survey vehicle as well as acceptance by the insurance carrier under typical rates.

  • Knowledge of, and experience using Chainman tools to include levels, total stations, reflectors, rods, surveyors’ tapes, plumb bob, hammers, hatchets, machetes, shovels, picks, chisels, drills.

  • Understanding and experience using electronic/digital tools to include GPS, data collectors, etc.

  • Understanding of field safety practices in various environments; ability to use good judgment and caution in hazardous situations.

  • Ability to perform field survey work.
